Pint of Science – Are your healthcare records transforming research?

18 Jul 2016

The EHR related Pint of Science night went down a storm at the Driver pub in Islington on 23rd May. The night started with Sara Thomas, Anthony Matthews, Kevin Wing, and Elizabeth Williamson all presenting their own opinions on why researchers should be allowed access to anonymised health records for the purpose of research, backed up using examples from their own work. Following interval drinks, the audience engaged in a panel discussion that brought up some very interesting questions such as, “Why can’t we just published anonymized health data online?”. The night was not only enjoyable for all involved, but also extremely informative, and allowed the researchers to gain a deeper understanding into the thoughts of the public on this matter.
