StatinWISE now recruiting!
03 Feb 2017
StatinWISE is a trial designed to find out whether the muscle symptoms experienced during statin use are caused by statins. Statins are the most commonly prescribed treatment in the UK. Severe side effects such as rhabdomyolysis are rare, but there is uncertainty about whether statins cause less severe symptoms like muscle pain and cramps. StatinWISE aims to find out whether statins cause these muscle symptoms. With a unique ‘N-of-1’ design, StatinWISE will also allow each participant to understand whether their own muscle symptoms are worse when on statins or when using placebo.
We are working with GP practices across England and Wales to recruit patients who have recently stopped taking statins, or who are thinking of stopping statins, because of muscle symptoms. If you would like to find our more or take part in StatinWISE, visit our website (http://statinwise.lshtm.ac.uk/) or email us (firstname.lastname@example.org).
The trial is funded by the National Institute of Health Research Health Technology Assessment Programme.
