My research focusses on understanding the relationship between infections and vascular or degenerative diseases to inform strategies for personalised prevention. My current work is funded by a Wellcome Trust Intermediate Clinical Fellowship to investigate the role of persisting virus infections on the development of neurological diseases of ageing such as stroke and dementia. My PhD at UCL looked at the triggering effect of acute respiratory infections on myocardial infarction and cardiovascular death, and I am involved in several ongoing projects in that field. I am an honorary Consultant in Public Health and contribute to policy work as a Visiting Fellow at the Foundation for Genomics & Population Health in Cambridge.
